On wed, after the consultation, we are told that the ideas did not require much of interactivity.Exhibit needs to engage the audience, visitors can learn through interactivity. Need to look through the requirements. Therefore we relook in our ideas and try to futher develop the ideas. We try to think of more ideas too and try input multisensory and participation in the ideas.
We did research on the preparation before the wedding. We pointed out different facts and then bring them together and see whether we can combine this facts.
On thursday, we came together again and combine the ideas. Then we split the jobs to the Hafiza and Natasha will do on their podcast showing what types of visuals they will like to use and shuyun will do on the illustration part as for me, I did on the powerpoint slides, combing the key research and our concepts.
On friday, after the presentation, the teacher pointed out to us that the concepts are not connected and there are no linkage in the concept. The concepts is like different ideas scatter around and put together. Therefore, the teacher wanted us to do research on installation technology, look at other people's work, look through the things we need to do and see if we have skip any steps. By refreshing our mind with new things, hopefully we will get inspired from there.
After the presentation, we decided to relook into our concept and realise that our concept is on surface and we do not exactly know what we are doing and just combine ideas withour a "theme" therefore it becomes very scatter. We decided to research and think of ideas in a full view and not think of interactive directly from the exhibit. We need to think about the experience and will the visitors learn through our concept or we are just providing the informations in visuals. Is it a passive interactivity? How do we make it non-linear? What is non-linear?What is the purpose of it? With all this questions in our head, we went back home and answer this questions according to what we research and understand about it.
During the weekend, I actually realise that the whole concept we came out is just passive interactive and there is no purpose behind the interactive. The experience we want the visitors to have is not exactly experince. Non- linear to me is something unpredictable, the purpose of the concepts we are coming out with is to let them learn. After thinking through the points, i brainstorm out the using keywords like wedding, process, clothes, jewels etc. Then i slowly realise that process is a very wide range to approach and difficult to put together clearly as one when we want to, the whole thing becomes very general and unclear it will then lose it's real meanin which is to let visitors learn and absorb fast.
Then i look through interactive technology to see what ideas i can come out with it but i realise that i will tend to skip steps and look into interactivity first and then ideas. So i went to brainstorm and make myself settle on clothing itself and research on the motif on the clothes and why do the bride wear the real gown only on the last day of the marriage and what do they wear in between the 12 days. I also thought of peranakan culture is actually the mixture of chinese, malay and indian culture. Then I start to think of picking out the similarity from the different culture.
After brainstorming, i went to research on the kebaya, its orgin then the motif on it. The motif used on their clothes are usually flowers, butterflies, dragon etc. The flower usually used is peony. On the next post, i will show the mindmap and notes that i have done.
